New to Yoga?

Welcome to a practice that will support you in embracing the fullness of each moment!

Yoga is not entirely a physical practice, although this is where many of us begin.  The intention is to create space to spend time with yourself, take note of how you are feeling, what you are thinking, and how you are responding.  This can be done in a number of different ways, either moving or still, and there is no judgment on how you choose to proceed.

No one is “good” or “bad” at yoga.  You do not have to have any physical or mental prerequisites.  This practice is mainly about being present with where you are, without judgment.  And this is not easy to do!!!! So we hope we can support the beginning of your practice with a few tips:

Come to a Yoga for Every Body, Gentle or Restorative class, or an Introduction to Yoga or Meditation workshop, where you will learn therapeutic alignment and breathing techniques to alleviate stiffness, stress and pain in the body, while gaining tools to facilitate daily mindfulness based practices.  You will also be presented with an introduction to philosophy and history of yoga with space for questions and reflection. Please see our schedule for these selections.

Upon arriving to a class or workshop, please intend to:

  • Leave enough time to check in and/or make payment before class begins.

  • Please remove your shoes upon entering if you are able to do so.  We recommend bare feet for practicing if comfortable/possible.

  • If you arrive after the class has begun, please wait quietly until the class has started moving so that the centering & meditation is respected for those in class.

  • If you need to leave class early, please inform the teacher so that he or she may help you depart with respect to others.

  • Please turn off and/or refrain from using electronic devices, including the vibrating function on your phone.  If you need to be available to your family and friends please do so in a way that respects others so that they do not have to be alerted as well.

  • Because we are not responsible for your belongs, please utilize the lockers or bring your items into the studio with your electronics turned off.

  • It is your responsibility to inform the teacher before class if you have any physical or mental considerations, injuries, or any other issues that need to be modified or accounted for during class.

  • Please be considerate of the space, practice, and classes upon entering and exiting by keeping voices soft.

The yoga practice is less about becoming more flexible or strong and more about supporting balanced actions in all aspects of our lives.  Our classes will help increase your awareness and sensitivity to the areas that need more attention, and those that need to release and relax, both on and off the mat.  As such, the style of yoga and type of class may change regularly to suit your needs.  We encourage you to experiment to learn your options, ask questions, and reflect often.

We are so happy you are interested in beginning this journey with us and would love to support you more!  Let us know if you have any further questions.

Thank you and Namaste ~
