The world is nothing more
Than Beauty's chance to show Herself.
And what are we?
Nothing more than Beauty's chance to see Herself.
For if Beauty were not seeking Herself,
We would not exist. -Ghalib

Wendy Atteberry, Director BSY, ERYT
I stepped onto the mat for the first time in 1994 to enhance my dance training by cultivating balance, strength, and flexibility. I soon realized that Yoga is the way to transform each moment of our lives into an auspicious journey. The practice inspired so much benevolence in my heart that I dedicated myself and my life to a disciplined practice several years later.
I am deeply grateful to the many teachers who have shared their light and support as my unique style of Vinyasa Flow Yoga continually evolves and grows. My teachings reflect the philosophies of Krishnamacharya, the alignment principles and self-affirming celebrations of Anusara Yoga, the spirit and power of moving with the breath, and dedication to refining and modifying the experience on the mat through therapeutic compassion for each student’s personal journey. Each student will have a full experience!
I am committed to Yoga as a force for positive change. Having studied Earth, Marine, and Environmental Science for many years and working towards a Masters degree in Education, I blend Yoga and ecological awareness as a way to deepen the ultimate meaning of Yoga as union. By treating all beings, as well as nature, with compassion and respect through honoring and encouraging sustainable practices for our bodies and our environment, one can experience true healing. My fluid, energetic, playful, compassionate, and self-affirming teaching style reminds us that we do not need to look elsewhere to experience the joy, peace, harmony, and bliss that resides within.

Practicing yoga for over 30 years has helped me cope with stiff muscles and pain and improved my posture while walking. When I was one year old, polio weakened my legs and made walking normally a constant challenge. Yoga helped me lead a very exciting and rewarding life including careers as a social worker dealing with street gangs, a lawyer with the Cook County State’s Attorney Office, an outdoor adventure educator leading groups through adventure courses (including high and low rope activities and rock climbing), a business owner, a personal coach, and an adjunct professor.
As I have aged, I have faced additional physical challenges and have decided my goal in life is to age with grace and dignity and just in case that fails (and I know it will) rely on a good sense of humor. Yoga taught me that our bodies are capable of healing through gentle movement. I look forward to sharing what I have learned and exploring the benefits of yoga with my students while instilling a sense of fun and joy into our yoga practice.
I have completed a 200 hour yoga teacher training course which meets the Yoga Alliance’s Certification Requirements and have attended the following recent workshops: Matthew Sanford - Therapeutic Yoga, Todd Norian - Anusara Workshop, Betsy Downing - Anusara Sequencing Workshop,
Gabriel Halpern - Back Care Basics, Yoga for Neck and Shoulders, Yoga to Help the Hips

I began my yoga practice after a displaced disk and severe back pain interfered with daily life. I immediately noticed the healing powers of yoga and had a passion to learn more. I consider myself a life-long student and continue to expand and broaden my experience of yoga through my own personal practice, home studies, and attending various workshops.
Taking care of myself, my mind, body, and spirit is very important. Yoga gives me peace, it gives me balance, and gives me an overall feeling of goodness. I enjoy sharing my enthusiasm and knowledge of yoga to help my students achieve greater health, peace, and harmony through a balanced yoga practice.
In my spare time, I volunteer at my church with the Sunday Community Dinner, Funeral luncheons, and at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington.
I have completed a 200-hour Yoga teacher training course that meets the Yoga Alliance’s Certification Requirements and have recently attended workshops with the following Master Teachers: Dave Romanelli, Todd Norian, Desiree Rumbaugh, Betsey Downing, Dr. Baxter Bell, Gabriel Halpern.

I discovered yoga several years ago through a friend of mine who spoke endlessly about its benefits. When I became a stay-at-home mom, yoga became my personal time for physical and emotional well-being. As my path of yoga continued, my love for the practice grew, just as my daughter grew. When she got ready to begin school, I decided to pursue my own education and to become a yoga teacher. Before becoming a stay-at-home mom, I was a social worker, helping children and adults to work towards emotional balance. Practicing and teaching yoga was an easy and natural transition for me, especially when I realized that yoga works the body in the same way that therapy works the mind. I no longer work directly in social work, but the experience I gained in that profession has guided my path in yoga.
I strive to teach my classes engaging a balance between physical challenge and emotional freedom. I enjoy the duality of yoga and find that it mirrors the many oppositional concepts of life. As I continue to explore yoga as a practice and as a perpetual student, I find inspiration in the principles of Anusara Yoga and Iyengar Yoga. These forms of yoga explore each pose and its alignment in the body. Therefore, the breath can flow more freely and we are able to experience the liberation and beauty of yoga. As we flow from one pose to the next in the Vinyasa style, we can lose ourselves in the rhythm of yoga and find the pulse of the enlightened heart within.
In addition to teaching adults, I have found a calling in teaching children's yoga. I currently work with children from age 3 through age 12. Young children are natural yogis. Their energy and enthusiasm is inspiring. They are incredibly willing to learn and explore by moving their bodies and using their breath and voices. As children get older, they become more and more interested in the poses (asanas) and how they flow together. As I guide each children’s yoga class, I am humbled by the youthful teachers in the class. Their playfulness, honesty, and willingness to explore brighten my heart.
